Double Paralympic gold medallist Sumit Antil shattered his own world record in the F64 javelin, producing a massive throw of 74.82m at the Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships in Bengaluru on Wednesday, May 27. The Indian star bettered his previous mark of 73.29m set in 2023, underlining his dominance in the event.

The record-breaking effort adds another milestone to Antil’s already decorated career, which includes back-to-back Paralympic gold medals at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 along with multiple world championship titles.

Speaking after the event, an exhausted but delighted Antil said he had been chasing this moment for years.

“I am really happy, I have been waiting for this moment for three years. It should have been broken long back, but it feels nice," he told Revsportz after the event.

He reflected on the effort behind the throw and the significance of the achievement. “I could have done better, but hopefully I will do better at the Asian Para Games. This world record isn’t just mine but of the whole country.”

A RECORD YEARS IN THE MAKING

Antil also revealed the technical adjustments he made in his preparation to finally breach the mark.

“I did a lot of changes in my technique and run-up just to break the world record before the end of this year," he added. “I did a lot of changes to my rhythm and the way I attack. Earlier, I wasn’t able to draw power from my run-up, but now with those changes I am able to convert it. Hopefully, I can improve it further and increase my distance even more.”

The performance further cements Antil’s status as one of the most dominant para javelin throwers in the world. Over the past few years, he has consistently raised the bar in the F64 category, redefining standards with every major championship. His ability to repeatedly break his own records highlights not just his talent, but also his relentless drive to improve despite already standing at the top of his sport.

Antil’s latest world record did not come as an isolated breakthrough but as part of a steady progression in form and technique. Since his emergence on the global stage, he has continuously pushed the boundaries of the F64 classification, combining refined biomechanics with improved speed on the runway. His recent focus on technical adjustments proved decisive in finally surpassing his previous best.

With the Asian Para Games approaching, Antil will now aim to carry this momentum forward, with his sights firmly set on pushing the record even further and extending his dominance on the international stage.
