Mohammad Azharuddin lauded Virat Kohli and his team for their performance in Australia and said that nothing can be more insulting for a team than to lose a Test series on home soil.
"What can be more insulting? It can't be more embarrassing for a team to lose at home. If you lose at home it can't be more embarassing. Indian team not only beat the Australian team but also shut up the Aussie public," Azharuddin said at India Today Mind Rocks 2019.
Kohli became the first Indian captain to win a series in Australia. He came very close to setting the Indian record of registering three Test wins in Australia but will have to be satisfied with two victories, a feat which Bishan Singh Bedi had managed as India skipper on the 1977-78 tour Down Under.
The series win was largely set up by India's fast bowlers who bagged a total of 51 wickets in the four matches with Australia getting bowled out 7 times out of 8 during the series.
Jasprit Bumrah finished as the highest wicket taker from either side with 21 wickets, while Mohammed Shami managed 16 and Ishant Sharma got 11. Umesh Yadav picked up two wickets in the lone Test he played in Perth.
Spin-twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin got 7 and 6 wickets respectively while Kuldeep Yadav bagged 5 wickets in the Sydney Test, the only match he featured in the series.
