Foldable iPhone may launch as iPhone Ultra: From price to colours, here is everything we know about it
Ahead of the expected foldable iPhone launch in September, more leaks are hitting the web. The fresh leaks suggest the foldable iPhone could be called the iPhone Ultra, and that it may come in two colours. Here is everything else we know about it, from price to its expected specs.

The month of September is still four months away. That is the month when new iPhones, including the iPhone Fold or the iPhone 18 series will be coming. Talking of the foldable iPhone, let’s deal with the name first. We don’t know what it will be called. Several names are floating around on the web, with most likely being the iPhone Fold. But now a fresh leak suggests that Apple may christen its foldable phone differently. Apple may call it the iPhone Ultra.
Well, whether Fold or Ultra, the foldable iPhone is likely to come in two colours. This information comes courtesy Macworld, a website that keeps a closer eye on all things Apple. Come September, we may see the iPhone Ultra in two colours — silver-white and deep indigo.
What all this means is that essentially we may get to see six iPhones this year. That would be the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, iPhone Ultra, and the iPhone Air. Now, it is unlikely that all six will launch in one year, and this also runs contrary to the iPhone launch schedule we have seen. So, the possibility is that the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Ultra will likely launch in September. And then early next year we will get to see the iPhone Air, iPhone 18, and the iPhone 18e.
The foldable iPhone India price
Irrespective of what the phone is called, Ultra or Fold, rumour mill is abuzz with the possible price of the device. And that price is the magical number called $2000. This may end up being around $500 above the iPhone 18 Pro Max price.
So, how much will be the India price if the iPhone Ultra is going to cost $2000 in the local market. It is safe to say it will most certainly cross Rs 2 lakh if this price holds. That is because Apple usually treats $1 as Rs 100 when it comes to pricing its products. Now, this is something that used to be the norm a long time ago when the Dollar-Rupee exchange rate was much lower around Rs 70. Since then, the exchange rate has gone up significantly.
But at the same time, Apple has also been able to localise the production of the iPhone in India. That means it has been able to, still, keep its $1 equals to Rs 100 formula kind of intact for certain category of devices.
But in the case of the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, this may not hold true. That is because the Ultra, given its technological innovations, uniqueness, and limited run, is likely to be manufactured in only one place and that place would almost certainly be in China. In other words, for the iPhone Ultra Apple may be forced to go with a slightly higher exchange rate. It could very well be priced at above Rs 2.25 lakh in India if its global price is $2000.
iPhone Ultra everything else we know
Earlier, dummy units and CAD surfaced online, suggesting Apple is likely going with a book-style form factor. This could make the iPhone Fold noticeably wider than most foldables out there, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
However, it is also tipped to be a little shorter, which could give it the compact, passport-like proportions that would make it stand out from the foldable crowd. As for the hinge, Apple is said to be opting for a liquid metal mechanism. On the back, expect a camera module that looks familiar if you have seen the iPhone Air, though this time around it comes with two cameras.
The inner display of iPhone Fold is expected to measure 7.8 inches, while the outer screen comes in at 5.5 inches. Both panels are tipped to feature Samsung's M16 OLED technology. At around 9.23mm when closed, the iPhone Fold also looks set to be one of the slimmer entries in the foldable space.
Perhaps the most surprising detail, though, is what the iPhone Fold will reportedly leave out. Face ID and the Dynamic Island — two of Apple's most recognisable features in recent years — are both said to be absent from the device. In their place, Apple is expected to go with punch-hole cameras on both screens, paired with a side-mounted Touch ID for biometric authentication.
Then there are cameras. The iPhone Fold is expected to feature a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 48MP main sensor and a 48MP ultrawide lens — notably without a telephoto camera. For selfies, Apple may opt for punch-hole cutouts on both screens, each housing an 18MP shooter, though an under-display camera option for the inner screen has also been floated.
Under the hood, the iPhone Fold is expected to be powered by Apple's upcoming A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, promising meaningful gains in performance and efficiency over the A19 Pro. The device is also tipped to pack 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
On the battery front, the iPhone Fold could house the largest cell ever fitted in an iPhone, rumoured to fall somewhere between 5,400mAh and 5,800mAh. Like the iPhone Air, the device may also ditch the physical SIM tray entirely in favour of eSIM across all markets, freeing up internal space for the larger battery. As for AI, the iPhone Fold is expected to benefit from a revamped Siri arriving with iOS 27.
