Google made Gemini speak Haryanvi at I/O 2026 and Indians loved it
At Google I/O 2026, Google showcased Gemini speaking in Haryanvi during a live demo, surprising Indian viewers and sparking amused reactions online.

At Google I/O 2026, Google showcased several major AI upgrades across Search, YouTube and the Gemini app. But among all the futuristic AI announcements, one moment unexpectedly stole the spotlight for Indian viewers — Gemini speaking in Haryanvi.
During a live demo of the redesigned Gemini app, Google showed how Gemini Live can now speak in regional dialects. To demonstrate the feature, Gemini started talking in Haryanvi, instantly catching the attention of Indian viewers, especially users from Haryana.
In the demo, Gemini could be heard saying, “Mare Bharat varsh me saikado dhal ki boli boli jave hai me. Ib Gemini unme ta kai aur boliya me ta baat kr sake se. Jaise aapni dhakad Haryanvi.”
The moment immediately stood out during the keynote. Even someone from the audience could be heard cheering as Gemini spoke in Haryanvi.
Internet users were amused and impressed
Soon after the demo, clips of Gemini speaking in Haryanvi started circulating online, with many users expressing surprise and amusement at hearing a global AI assistant speak in such a local dialect.
“Interesting this feels quite relatable when native languages are used like this. Great tactics by Google,” one user wrote online.
Another user joked, “Finally, Haryana has some presence beyond Gurugram.”
For many Indian users, the feature felt less like a technical upgrade and more like a cultural moment — seeing AI adapt not just to major languages like Hindi or English, but also to regional dialects people actually use in daily life.
Google is redesigning Gemini to feel more human
The Haryanvi demo was part of Google’s larger redesign of the Gemini experience.
Google says Gemini Live is now being integrated directly into chat, allowing users to switch seamlessly between talking and typing during conversations.
The company has also redesigned the Gemini app with a new visual style called Neural Expressive. According to Google, the updated interface includes fluid animations, vibrant colours, new typography and haptic feedback.
Instead of replying with long blocks of plain text, Gemini will now generate more dynamic responses in real time using visuals, interactive timelines, narrated videos and animated graphics.
Google says Neural Expressive is rolling out globally starting today across web, Android and iOS devices.
Gemini is also coming to desktops in a bigger way
Google also announced that it is working on major updates for the Gemini desktop app on macOS.
Later this summer, the company plans to bring Gemini Spark to desktop, allowing the AI assistant to work with local files and automate workflows directly across users’ computers.
