Even as Meta begins company-wide mass layoffs, its founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is seemingly on the lookout for new talent. Speculation is rife that he is hiring, not for Meta per say, but for his own massive Hawaii ranch in Kauai. The role is apparently that of a “beach water person” and entails tasks ranging from offering lifeguard services to assisting Zuckerberg and Co. in ocean sports activities.

This unusual job opening from Zuckerberg was first spotted by WIRED through a listing on Greenhouse linked to West 10, the Zuckerberg family office. According to the report, Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, are said to be looking for a seasonal, on-call worker for their sprawling Kauai compound.

While the title “beach water person” sounds fun, the role is essentially centred around water safety. The job description reportedly states that the person would serve as both a beach and pool lifeguard. But that is not all. The person would also work as a boat deckhand and help guests with stand-up paddleboarding, canoe paddling, snorkeling and other ocean-based activities.

In short, the role sounds like a mix of private lifeguard, surf instructor and yacht assistant rolled into one luxury estate job.

While the listing quickly grabbed attention online, it has since reportedly disappeared from the Greenhouse careers page.

The hiring also lines up with Zuckerberg’s growing obsession with ocean sports and luxury sea life. Over the last few years, Zuckerberg has frequently been spotted surfing, hydrofoiling and wake surfing. In a Bloomberg interview for “The Circuit w/ Emily Chang”, he even turned part of the conversation into a wake-surfing lesson at his Lake Tahoe home, explaining how balancing on a wake wave differs from traditional surfing.

Infant, much of Zuckerberg's lifestyle now centres around his enormous Kauai property in Hawaii. The ranch has attracted headlines over the years because of reports claiming it includes a massive underground bunker, private compounds and extensive security systems. Zuckerberg has downplayed those claims, describing the structure as more of a “hurricane shelter” and basement space rather than a full-scale doomsday bunker.

The Kauai estate itself is believed to span hundreds of acres and reportedly includes luxury guest houses, farming operations and cattle ranching. Reports surrounding the property have also mentioned wagyu beef farming and large-scale development plans on the island. In fact, the Meta CEO is also known for his luxury yachts, including Launchpad, which has previously been linked to surfing trips and luxury travel around coastal destinations.

The news comes even as Meta begins mass layoffs with teams in Singapore reportedly getting termination emails as early as 4 am on May 20. Reports suggest that as many as 8,000 employees may be in line to get the dreaded pink slip. Meta is yet to confirm the layoffs officially.
