Huawei made smart AI glasses before Apple, claims they have insane battery life
Huawei rolled out its first AI-powered smart glasses on Monday. The device can enable QR code-based payments and supports first-person video calls. Here's everything you need to know about it.

While Meta Platforms continues to dominate the smart glasses space, the competition is quietly heating up. Tech heavyweights like Apple and Google are widely expected to enter the segment soon, while Samsung has also been spotted working on its own version of smart eyewear. Amid all of this, Huawei isn’t waiting on the sidelines. The Shenzhen-based tech giant has already unveiled its first smart glasses with a built-in camera. With this move, Huawei positions itself as a direct challenger to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.
Huawei’s smart glasses features
Huawei’s new smart glasses are powered by the company’s in-house chipset and feature a 12-megapixel camera. The device can capture photos and POV videos, support live streaming, and even enable first-person video calls. Beyond imaging, the glasses come equipped with multimodal AI capabilities. According to He Gang, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, the device can facilitate payments by scanning QR codes and even estimate and track food calories. It also has translation and voice assistant support.
Huawei is attempting to set its smart glasses apart with a strong battery life claim, stating they can deliver up to nine hours of continuous music playback, which is higher than the roughly five hours offered by Meta Platforms’ rival device. On paper, this gives Huawei a clear edge in endurance, though real-world performance remains to be seen.
The company initially advertised a lightweight 35g design, but a report from Gizmodo points out that this figure excludes the lenses. When the lenses are included, the glasses weigh around 47g. Even then, they remain slightly lighter than Meta Platforms’ offering, which ranges between 50g and 53g.
The glasses are offered in three finishes: Silver Grey, Shimmery Silver, and Modern Black — and are available in both round and square frame designs.
In terms of price, Huawei’s smart glasses enter the market at 2,499 yuan (roughly Rs 34,239), setting up close competition with Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses, which start at about $379 ( roughly Rs 35,400).
At Monday’s launch event, Huawei also introduced new handsets in its mid-range flagship Pura 90 series, with prices starting at 4,699 yuan (roughly Rs 64,380), the same as its predecessor launched last June. The all-new Huawei AI Glasses have entered the pre-sale phase, with official sales set to begin on April 25.
