Kajol Devgan, famously known as Kajol, is an Indian actress born on August 5, 1974, in Bombay (present-day Mumbai). Born in a filmy family, her mother Tanuja was an actress and her father Shomu Mukherjee was a film director and producer.
She completed her schooling at St. Joseph's Convent School, Panchgani. At the age of 16, Kajol began work on Bekhudi, which became her debut movie. In 1993, she was cast in Abbas–Mustan's crime thriller Baazigar alongside Shah Rukh Khan, and her role was widely recognised by the audience.
She gained wider public recognition for her role in Yeh Dillagi, produced by Yash Raj Films. This movie got Kajol her first Best Actress nomination at the annual Filmfare Awards.
While Kajol was seen in many movies and became a household name with her acting skills, her 1995 releases Karan Arjun and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge became her two major commercial successes opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one such movie that has been continuously running in Mumbai. In 2014, it surpassed 1000 weeks of screening and became the longest-running Indian film ever. The film earned 10 Filmfare Awards, including a first Best Actress for Kajol.
From being a romantic actress to an obsessive lover turned psychopathic serial killer in Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Kajol has proved her versatility over the years. She also won Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role for her role.
In 1998, Kajol starred in three highest-grossing productions of the year: Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Kajol has also been featured in movies such as Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham..., Fanaa, U Me Aur Hum, and My Name Is Khan, among others.
In 2015, she teamed up again with Shah Rukh Khan in Rohit Shetty's action romance Dilwale. In 2017, Kajol starred opposite Dhanush in Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, a sequel to the 2014 masala film Velaiilla Pattadhari.
Kajol was also seen in Renuka Shahane's social drama Tribhanga, which was released in 2021. She starred in Revathi's family drama Salaam Venky in 2022.
Talking about her personal life, Kajol got married to Ajay Devgn in 1994, while filming Gundaraj. She gave birth to her daughter Nysa in 2003 and her son Yug in 2010.
