Karnataka

Situated on the southwestern region of India, Karnataka is the sixth largest state in India in terms of area with 30 districts. Karnataka is the largest state in south India and its capital city is Bengaluru.

Karnataka is bounded by Goa on the north-west, Telangana on the north-east, Tamil Nadu on the south-east and Kerala on the south-west. The Coastal Plains, the Western Ghats and the Deccan Plateau mark the three distinct geographical regions in Karnataka. Four major rivers flowing through Karnataka are Krishna, Cauvery, Kabini and Tungabhadra.

Karnataka, previously known as Mysore, was formed on November 1 in 1956 after the passage of States Reorganisation Act. In 1973, it was renamed as Karnataka and every year on November 1, this day is observed as Kannada Rajyotsava.

Kannada is the official and the most widely spoken language of the state. It has a dynamic climate and it mainly experiences arid, semi-arid and humid tropical climate. Bisi Bele Bath, the Neer Dosa, Ragi Mudde, dosas, Udupi, oota are the some of the famous Kannda dishes.

Known as the IT hub of India, Karnataka is one of the fastest growing states in India owing to its flourishing Information Technology industry. More than 56 per cent of the state's workforce is engaged in agriculture and related activities.

Bandipur National Park, Hampi, Mysore Palace, Shivanasamudra falls, Jog Falls, Nandi Hills, Chitradurga Fort are some of the famous travel destinations in Karnataka. Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Coorg, Gokarna, Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad are important cities of the state.
