Kiren Rijiju is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and belongs to Andhra Pradesh. He has been a three-time member of the parliament representing his state and has held office under various ministries.
FAMILY BACKGROUND
Rijiju was born in 1971 at Nakhu near Nafra, in Arunachal pradesh. His father, Rinchin Kharu was the first pro tem speaker of arunachal pradesh and gave oath to the members of the first state legislative assembly. His mother is Chirai Rijiju and he is married to Joram Rina Rijiju. He resides at Krishna Menon Marg, New Delhi.
He belongs to the Nyishi Tribe.
EDUCATION
Kiren Rijiju completed his schooling at St.Edmund’s School, Shillong and did his graduation from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He further pursued his master’s in Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 1998.
POLITICAL CAREER
A key member of the Narendra Modi cabinet, Kiren Rijiju has held office under all Modi terms. Rijuju began his political career in 1999 when he was elected to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing the Dibang Valley constituency. He has been a member of the Lok Sabha Parliament representing Arunachal West since 2019, having previously been elected for the 2004 to 2009 term as well.
He is currently serving as the minister of Earth sciences after being removed from the Union Minister of Law and Justice position in May 2023. He was replaced by Arjun Ram Meghwal.
As a minister of law and justice, however, Rijiju introduced a number of reforms, such as the National Judicial Appointments Commissions, which aim to make the appointment of judges more transparent and accountable. He also introduced the Whistleblowers Protection Act which aims to protect whistleblowers from retaliation.
Under the BJP government, he has held various ministerial positions. He was the minister of state for home affairs from 2014 to 2017.
In 2017, he was appointed as Minister of State independent charge for Youth Affairs and sports.
He previously held an independent charge for Youth Affairs and Sports.

He was a good athlete during his college days and continues to play badminton and football even today. He has been actively involved in disaster risk management and is a member of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
