These 9 places in India are too mysterious to be true

Breathtaking scenery and rich historical remnants of the country are always talked about. But these inexplicable wonders equally deserve a place in your bucket-list.

Levitating Stone, Shivapur, Maharashtra

As legend goes, Hazrat Qamar Ali Darvesh used to be a gymnasium at one time. About 800 years ago, a Sufi saint, Qamar Ali, was teased by wrestlers. Disappointed by this, the saint cast a spell on the rocks that were used for body-building. Even today, if 11 people touch their fingers to the rock, which weighs 70kg, and shout the name "Qamar Ali Darvesh," the stone flies up in the air.

Living root bridges, Meghalaya

Living root bridges may be common in the southern part of Meghalaya but these handmade wonders are surely a sight to behold. Since the state is hit with excessive rain each year, the Khasis built these bridges from roots of rubber trees by passing them through the roots of Areca nut palm. 

Karni Mata Temple, Rajasthan (temple of rats)

At about 30 km from Bikaner, stands the Karni Mata Temple that is said to house over 20,000 rats. Called ''kabbas'', these holy rats are revered as reincarnated family members of Karni Mata. Eating the food that is nibbled on by the rats is considered to be a ''high honour.''

Roopkund Lake, Chamoli Uttarakhand (lake of skeletons)

Located at a height of 16,500 ft in the Himalayas, this glacial lake contains hundreds of skeletons around its edge. Scientists claim that the skeletons are remains of people who were killed in a sudden hailstorm in the ninth century. 

Magnetic Hill, Ladakh

This hill in Ladakh, situated at an altitude of 11,000 ft above sea level, pulls a car uphill even when the ignition is off. Scientists suggest that such a phenomenon occurs owing to an optical illusion caused by a gravity hill. 

Shani Shingnapur, Maharashtra (village without doors)

You will be surprised to see how this village, located about 35 km from Ahmednagar, Maharastra, is dotted with homes and buildings that have no doors. No crime has been recorded in this village till date. Going by the tradition, even UCO Bank has opened a ''lock-less'' branch in this village, the first of its kind in India.

Floating islands of Loktak, Manipur

The Lokatak lake is the only floating lake in the world and is one of the most unusual sights in India. The lake has large circular masses of vegetation, called, Phumdis, floating on its surface. 

Jatinga, Assam (where birds commit suicide)

Around September and October, especially on dark and foggy nights, the town of Jatinga, in the Borial Hills of Assam, witnesses hundreds of migratory birds flying towards buildings and crashing themselves to death. 

Neelakurinji Bloom, Munnar, Kerala

Kerala really lives up to its title of ''God's own country''. For, this flower, popularly called Neelakurinji, blossoms only once in 12 years on the fabled hills of Munnar, between August and October.
