A monkey's unexpected heist in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr turned into a viral spectacle after it snatched a bag containing Rs 2 lakh and showered currency notes from a tree, drawing crowds and triggering a frenzy to collect the cash.
The bizarre incident took place on Saturday near the district court complex, when a man had arrived at an advocate's chamber to complete paperwork related to a land transaction.
According to local reports, he was carrying around Rs 2 lakh in cash in the bag when a monkey suddenly grabbed the bag from his hands and scampered away.
The monkey climbed a nearby tree and began rummaging through the bag, probably expecting to find food. Instead, it found bundles of Rs 500 notes.
What happened next turned an ordinary day at the court complex into an unexpected spectacle.
The monkey started tearing open the bundles and tossing notes from the tree, creating the impression that money was raining from the sky. Within minutes, a crowd gathered below the tree as currency notes fluttered across the road and surrounding area.
A 53-second video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, racking up thousands of views and sparking humorous reactions.
The bag's owner raised an alarm while bystanders rushed to collect the scattered cash.
The unusual scene continued for several minutes, drawing curious onlookers and causing a commotion outside the registry vendors' campus.
Locals later helped the owner recover most of the cash, with nearly Rs 1.98 lakh of the Rs 2 lakh eventually retrieved.
