A software engineer has been left jobless after Deloitte allegedly rescinded his offer letter without explanation, just as his notice period at his previous employer came to an end.

Rajeev Anjana, an Instagram user who shared his ordeal personally on the platform, said he had successfully cleared all interview rounds and received a formal offer from the Big 4 consulting giant, only to receive a cold email one morning from Deloitte's Background Investigation Team informing him that a "discrepancy review" had been completed and the company would not be proceeding with his employment.

"It really hurts when you try your best, crack the Big 4, and finally get the offer, and then one fine morning, you see this," he wrote, sharing the email in his post, which went on to draw thousands of impressions and hundreds of comments from a stunned audience.

The timing made the situation particularly devastating. Anjana had already submitted his resignation and served out his notice period in anticipation of joining Deloitte, leaving him without a job and without clarity on what had gone wrong.

When he reached out to his HR representative seeking an explanation, he was told the details were confidential. "I don't understand what's confidential about it. I cleared the interview, I passed the rounds. If I was informed what the problem is, I could have helped resolve it," he wrote in a follow-up post.

The situation took a sharper turn when the HR representative allegedly told him not to make further contact and informed him that he had been blacklisted from applying to Deloitte in the future.

The case has reignited a broader conversation online about transparency in corporate hiring practices, the ethics of revoking offers at such a critical juncture, and whether companies owe candidates meaningful explanations when background verifications go awry.
