Man shares how his cab driver helped him save Rs 75,000 on car purchase
A Reddit user shared how a cab driver's timely advice helped him save Rs 75,000 on a Hyundai i20 deal, turning a routine ride into an unexpected win.

A man shared how a routine cab ride ended up saving him Rs 75,000 on his car purchase, thanks to a driver who stepped in at just the right moment.
Posting on Reddit’s r/CarsIndia, he recalled visiting a Hyundai showroom to check out the i20 Sportz (O) Knight Edition. After negotiating, he managed to bring the on-road price down to Rs 9.55 lakh, which he felt was a solid deal given that most other showrooms were quoting around Rs 9.6 lakh.
But the real twist came on his way back home.
While speaking to a salesperson about documentation over a call, the cab driver overheard the conversation and casually asked about the car and the price he had been quoted. When the man shared the details, the driver mentioned that he had recently bought a Hyundai Aura and had contacts in the dealership network.
The driver then offered to connect him with a friend who worked as a sales manager at Hyundai. Within about 15 minutes, the friend called back with a significantly better offer, Rs 8.8 lakh on-road for the same car, with a possibility of further reduction after checking with dealers.
“A random Rs 400 cab ride ended up saving me Rs 75,000 compared to what I thought was already a great deal,” the man wrote.
He also added that when he tried to tip the driver for helping him secure the deal, the driver politely refused and returned the extra money. According to him, the driver said he hadn’t helped expecting anything in return, but simply because he could.

The post received a whole lot of attention online, with several users struck by the unexpected kindness and timing of the interaction.
At the same time, some users took a more cautious view, pointing out that while the discount was impressive, it was always important to verify the vehicle thoroughly before finalising a deal, especially when the price seemed significantly lower than market rates. There was also a broader sentiment that while such moments restored faith in people, it was also wise to balance trust with due diligence in big purchases.
Others focused on the human aspect of the story, suggesting that gestures like these shouldn’t go unacknowledged. Several users felt that staying in touch or finding a meaningful way to thank the driver would be just as important as the money saved.
