A man who visited the Chitwan National Park in Nepal for wildlife sightings got more than he bargained for after witnessing a rare clash between two greater one-horned rhinos on the streets of nearby Sauraha, a tourist town in the southern part of the country.
Krishna Das, who shared a video of the incident on Instagram, explained that an older rhino had wandered into the town from the national park and was followed by a younger rhino competing for territory.
“An older rhino wandered into Sauraha town from Chitwan National Park, Nepal. A younger rhino competing for his territory followed him, and they battled it out on the streets,” read the caption of the post.
The video showed the massive animals locking horns in the middle of a road as stunned onlookers watched from a distance. The rhinos could be seen charging at each other repeatedly during the tense face-off.
In a lighter moment towards the end of the clip, one of the rhinos was seen calmly munching on flowers. “And when they are not fighting, they like to munch on flowers,” Das added.
In the caption of his post, Krishna Das said, “I came to Chitwan for the wildlife. I didn’t expect the wildlife to come to me - and bring a fight. Two greater one-horned rhinos stormed into town today and clashed right on the street. Nobody was hurt. Everyone was speechless.”
