A pregnant woman travelling aboard the Pune-Supaul Express gave birth to a baby with the timely assistance of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel under Indian Railways’ “Operation Matrishakti," which turned a routine train journey into an unforgettable moment.

The incident took place aboard Train No. 11401 Pune-Supaul Express in the guard-side general coach while the train was en-route. According to railway officials, the woman suddenly went into labour mid-journey, prompting an urgent response from RPF staff stationed nearby.

As soon as they were alerted to the situation, RPF Constable Somnath Pathade and Head Constable Vishwajit Kakade rushed to the coach to help the expectant mother. Faced with a highly sensitive medical emergency inside a moving train, the personnel remained calm and acted swiftly to assist her.

In a remarkable turn of events, the woman safely delivered a healthy baby onboard the train itself, with the support of the RPF team. Officials said the personnel provided immediate aid during the delivery, ensuring the mother remained safe despite the challenging circumstances.

Following the birth, railway staff coordinated efforts to safely evacuate both the mother and the newborn from the coach. With assistance from station authorities, a 108 ambulance service was arranged without delay so they could receive further medical care.

Doctors later confirmed that both the mother and baby were stable and in good health.

The woman was identified as 28-year-old Ruksana Khatun, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who had been travelling with her husband, Jameel Belawar, from Pune to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction when the unexpected medical emergency unfolded.

The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the RPF personnel and railway administration for stepping in during a critical moment and ensuring the safe delivery of the baby.

The incident has also brought attention to “Operation Matrishakti,” an initiative aimed at assisting pregnant women and ensuring timely support during emergencies, emphasising what many online described as the humanitarian side of Indian Railways.
