Woman complains of severe allergy after eating on Vande Bharat train. IRCTC reacts

A woman from Ranchi named Ayushi Singh claimed to have serious health issues after consuming food aboard the Vande Bharat Express train. She shared her experience on X, stating that she developed a severe allergy and her two-year-old son suffered from diarrhoea following their meal on the train.

In her post, Singh mentioned travelling in coach E1 of the Vande Bharat Express train number 22500 on March 27. She urged authorities to "look into the matter urgently," describing the allergy as potentially life-threatening. Along with the post, she shared two pictures of herself and her medical prescription from Maa Ram Pyaari Superspeciality Hospital in Ranchi to substantiate her claims.

Singh further criticised the quality of the food served on the train and the staff’s response to her complaints. "Worst quality food provided on Vande Bharat Express and insensitive attitude of staff towards complaints. This is my medical prescription describing severe allergy after consuming food in Vande Bharat 22500," she wrote in another update.

The woman also noted that the water served on the train tasted different, adding to her concerns about hygiene and safety standards.

In response, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) replied to her post stating, "Lunch on Train No. 22500 BSB-DGHR Vande Bharat Express (Coach E1) on 27.03.2026 was checked & found satisfactory. No other complaints received regarding quality, hygiene or safety of food on the day."

This incident has brought attention to passenger experiences related to onboard catering services on premium trains. While the IRCTC maintains that food quality on that day met standards, the woman's post highlights a contrasting personal experience.

The Vande Bharat Express is promoted as a modern and fast train service, with onboard amenities intended to provide comfort to travellers. However, this case emphasises the importance of addressing passenger grievances promptly and ensuring consistent food safety measures.
