Iran shoots down US-made MQ-9 reaper drone over Isfahan, claims IRGC
The US-made MQ-9 reaper drone failed to breach Iran's advanced air defence system, the IRGC said in a statement.
Amid the deepening conflict in the Middle East, Iranian air defences shot down a US-made MQ-9 reaper long-range unmanned aerial vehicle over the city of Isfahan, Russia's Tass news agency reported, citing sources from the Islamic Republic Guard Corps (IRGC).
"An MQ-9 reaper drone was intercepted and destroyed over Isfahan a few minutes ago," the IRGC said in a statement read by Tass News. The statement further mentioned that Iran's advanced air defence system intercepted the drone.
Tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate even after Washington sent a 15-point truce plan to Tehran, which included conditions such as strict curbs on Tehran’s nuclear programme, an end to support for proxy groups and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Washington is also pushing for a month-long ceasefire to enable negotiations.
Iran's reaction to the truce point was predictable, given the nature of the demands the United States placed. Tehran rejected the proposal, with its military mocking Trump for sending such a peace plan.
Has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you (Trump) negotiating with yourself?" said the top spokesperson for Iran's joint military command, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, as reported by Iranian State TV.
EXPLOSION IN IRAN'S ISFAHAN
Thick layers of flames erupted across the skyline of Isfahan after the United States carried out large-scale airstrikes targeting an ammunition depot on Monday evening, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a US official.
As the report suggests, the US used a lot of bunker-buster munitions to target the ammunition depot.
