Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has expanded its research and development capabilities with the inauguration of a new wing at its Technology Centre Pune (TCP) in Baner, reinforcing its role as a key global innovation hub within the Volkswagen Group.

The new facility is designed to accommodate over 250 engineers and will focus on advanced vehicle development, platform engineering, software solutions, and sustainable mobility initiatives. Located within Pune’s urban limits, the Baner centre complements the Group’s existing engineering base at Chakan, taking the total R&D workforce in the region to more than 450 engineers working on both domestic and international projects.

The expansion aligns with the company’s broader ‘Make in India, for India and the world’ vision, aimed at strengthening localisation, accelerating product development cycles, and responding more effectively to evolving customer needs. It also enhances India’s standing within the Group’s global R&D ecosystem, where SAVWIPL serves as the ‘Voice of India’ for product development and engineering.

Speaking on the development, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, said the new facility marks a significant milestone in the company’s India journey. He added that the expanded engineering ecosystem will enable faster delivery of global-quality solutions while deepening capabilities in areas such as digitalisation, automation, and advanced safety technologies.

Since its inception in 2019, the Technology Centre Pune at Chakan has been instrumental in developing India-specific products, including models like the Volkswagen Taigun and koda Kushaq, along with the Group’s sub-4-metre SUV, the koda Kylaq.
