Tamil Nadu govt extends lockdown till June 14 with some relaxations

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Saturday announced the extension of lockdown by another week till June 14. The government, meanwhile, has lifted certain curbs on parts of the state that will get comparatively more relaxation in lockdown rules, including Chennai and districts in north and south Tamil Nadu. However, 11 districts in the west and delta region where the infection rate is high will be given less relaxation.

Tamil Nadu is among the top five states reporting high Covid-19 cases in the country. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 22,651 new virus cases -- the highest in the country. Tamil Nadu alone is responsible for 18.79 per cent of the new cases in the country.
