Senthamizan Seeman cast his vote in Tamil Nadu polls

A viral video captured the moment Senthamizan Seeman, the filmmaker-politician and chief of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) party, cast his ballot during the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections. The footage, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, revealed exactly which party the leader chose, sparking significant online discussion regarding the secrecy of the ballot and election protocol.

The 59-year-old politician was captured entering the polling station amidst a flurry of camera flashes. After stepping into the voting zone, he was filmed pressing the button on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) for his own party. Following the vote, he posed for photographers once more to display his inked finger. This entire sequence was recorded and subsequently uploaded to social media, where it quickly gained traction.

The video soon drew the ire of social media users, who raised concerns over the violation of the electoral rules.

“This video post is against election rules! Isn't it?” a user wrote, tagging the official X accounts of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Election Commissioner of Tamil Nadu.

Another user said that his party is responsible for this violation of the electoral rules.

“The group that goes inside and shoots videos, that target group, is this Indha Naam Tamilar group,” the user wrote.

However, no major controversy had emerged till the time of this news report. No complaint has also been lodged yet over the video.

NAAM TAMILAR KATCHI FIGHTS ALONE

Continuing his push to create a political option that goes beyond the traditional electoral alliances led by the DMK and AIADMK, NTK decided to go solo in all the 234 seats.

The party secured a share of 6.72% votes in the 2021 assembly elections. For a better margin in this year’s polls, it has focused on urban and semi-urban areas and has fielded a high number of working professionals, like engineers, academics, and doctors.

Seeman, who is popular for films like Thambi and Love Insurance Company, had two unsuccessful runs in the 2016 and 2021 elections. This year, he decided to contest from the Karaikudi seat.
