Tamil Nadu Post-Poll Updates: PM Modi congratulates CM Vijay over a phone call

After the swearing-in ceremony, Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjuna said the sequence of songs at the swearing-in ceremony, Vande Mataram, followed by the national anthem and then the Tamil invocation was inappropriate for the state. He said the government had objected to the order and was told it followed a Union government circular.

"We do not agree with the Tamil invocation song being played third. Accordingly, in an unavoidable situation, the Tamil invocation song was played as the third song," he tweeted.

He also said that in future, this new practice will not be followed. Instead, as per the earlier practice, the Tamil invocation song will be played at the beginning of the event and the national anthem at the end.

BJP MP Ravi Kishan on Sunday congratulated actor-turned-politician Vijay after he took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following his party’s victory in the Assembly elections.

Reacting to Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony, Ravi Kishan said he hoped the new Chief Minister would perform well in office.

“I congratulate him. He won and became the CM,” the BJP MP said.

“He is an artist, and I hope that he will do good work,” Ravi Kishan added.

Former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee extended her heartfelt congratulations to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on their impressive victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

"Wishing him and his government success in serving the people with dedication and commitment," Banerjee tweeted.

TVK General Secretary Arun Raj said that they want to release the white paper 'as early as possible' so that MK Stalin cannot counter over the Rs 10 lakh crore debt claim the state is currently in.

Hours after Vijay slammed the DMK for leaving his government with a Rs 10 lakh crore debt burden, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan has reacted to the criticism. Elangovan said that not a single penny had been wasted under the DMK's rule. "The DMK's schemes have been of particular advantage to the underprivileged sections of society. Whatever false allegations they level against the DMK, they must be prepared to substantiate them with proof," he said. 

The Narendra Modi government's directive on the national song in February had triggered a major political row, with Opposition parties sharply criticising the move. The newly-elected MLAs will take oath on Monday while the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will be elected on Tuesday, an official communication from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly said.

We look forward to the active support and cooperation of the Union Government for the continued growth of Tamil Nadu," he said on X. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has resigned from Tiruchi East constituency. He was also elected from Perambur, which has been retained. 

DMK president MK Stalin on Sunday said Tamil Nadu's debt remained well within the "permissible limits". His remarks came hours after Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay alleged that the previous government had burdened the state with a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and emptied the treasury.

"We had clearly explained the financial position of the Tamil Nadu government in the February budget itself. Didn't you know that? It was only after that you made so many promises to the people. Don't deceive the people who voted for you and try to divert the issue," he said.
