TMC goons won't find hiding place, record turnout shows end of jungle raj: PM

Firing a warning shot at the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that after the May 4 election results, the ruling party’s “goons” would have no place to hide in West Bengal and that no one would be able to protect them.
Addressing a rally at Dum Dum, which goes to polls on April 29, PM Modi turned up the political heat, claiming that the record turnout in the first phase of polling had already signalled the end of what he termed the TMC’s “maha jungle raj.”
He further went to say that after the BJP government is formed on May 4, files related to every injustice and every atrocity committed against the people of the state will be opened. "I repeat, the files will be opened -- and this is Modi’s guarantee."
"Last night, TMC was empowering their goons all night long. I say to the people of Bengal, BJP workers, and the public: Do not forget that this is the land of revolution, this is the land of the brave... After the results come on May 4, the TMC's goons will find no place to hide, no one to save them. Yesterday's first-phase voting has sounded the death knell for the TMC's reign of jungle rule," PM Modi said.
He also pointed out that the high voter turnout in the first phase of polling marked a victory for democracy and reflected strong public faith in the electoral process. He also claimed that the substantial participation had left the worried, indicating what he described as a growing public desire for change.
"I congratulate the people of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The polling in the first phase of elections in Bengal has confirmed the wave of change which we have been seeing in Bengal. The support we saw for the BJP yesterday signals the victory. of the BJP," he said.
PM Modi referred to the record 92.89 per cent voter turnout in the first phase of Bengal’s elections, a rise of over 10 percentage points compared to 2021, calling it the state’s highest since Independence. The phase covered 152 constituencies across 16 districts.
He further said that if a BJP government is formed in Bengal, the welfare of the middle class would be prioritised, citing measures taken by the Centre. He noted that income up to Rs 12 lakh had been made tax-free, compared to Rs 2 lakh before 2014 when the Centre was supported by the TMC.
"To make the life of the middle class easier, the central government has taken numerous decisions over the past 11 years. Before 2014, when the government in Delhi was run with the support of TMC, the central government used to impose tax on annual income up to Rs 2 lakh... We have made zero tax on annual income up to Rs 12 lakh," he said.
