Watch: After Vijay's hologram, TVK's robot steals the show in Coimbatore
Days after Vijay's hologram debuted at a rally, a TVK candidate in Coimbatore deployed a robot for campaigning. Sethil Kumar, TVK's candidate from Coimbatore South, turned heads on Racecourse Road on Monday morning by deploying a robot dressed in TVK colours for canvassing.

The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), actor-turned-politician Vijay's political party, has promised to redefine politics in Tamil Nadu, a long-standing Dravidian stronghold. The TVK may not have several high-profile faces – apart from Vijay himself – on the campaign trail, but that has not stopped the party from running a high-tech campaign.

A viral video showed people gathering around the robot as Kumar sought votes for the April 23 election. Many stood beside the robot to click photos while some of them also shook hands with it.
Last week, TVK’s Kumbakonam candidate Vinoth Ravi deployed a life-sized 3D hologram of Vijay to connect with voters, a move rarely seen in Tamil Nadu politics.
Visuals from a rally on April 14 showed the high-definition digital projection of the TVK chief appearing alongside the local candidate, delivering a synchronised speech from a campaign vehicle.
In fact, the hologram created such a spectacle that crowds began to swell at the venue. "Are you ready to whistle? Our vote is our right, and no one can take us for granted. Our vote belongs to the whistle (TVK's poll symbol)," the hologram of Vijay was heard saying.
The "Hologram Vijay" later campaigned in several other constituencies too.
Apart from the robot and a life-sized 3D hologram, the party has also used a mannequin of the actor-politician and Vijay-lookalikes to woo voters.
Whether Vijay will be able to redefine Tamil Nadu's politics will be known on May 4, when the votes will be counted. Nevertheless, his party's innovative campaign has grabbed eyeballs.
