Eat millets, include it in daily diet to prevent diabetes, obesity | Health 360
One of the originally consumed grains in India, millets are making a comeback, and how. The tiny seed grains that were pushed off our plates have several health benefits—they are rich in fibre, protein, antioxidants and minerals. Year 2023 has been announced by the United Nations as the International Year of Millets, and it makes all the sense to put the spotlight back on this gluten-free grain. The fibre in millets is of two kinds: soluble and insoluble, and we need both for gut health. According to Saloni Jhaveri, in-house nutritionist at organic food brand Conscious Food, “It helps with digestion, weight management and relieving constipation and flatulence. Millets contain amino acids, which is what proteins are built from. Combined with legumes, this becomes a plant-based source of complete protein.”
