Kid can't compete without English: Jagan Reddy enters language debate

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has entered the national language debate, advocating for English as the primary medium of education in government schools. This position contrasts with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who have spoken in favour of learning Hindi. Reddy stated that while Hindi can be learned as an optional language, English is essential for students to be competitive globally. He said, 'until and unless the poor studying in these government schools learn to speak fluent English, they can never be competitive.' He proposed a language formula where English is the medium of instruction, the mother tongue is a compulsory first language, and other languages like Hindi are offered as an option for students.
