Hindu groups protest with pig to counter sacrificial goats in Thane society

A major clash erupted at Poonam Estate Cluster One in Mira Road, Thane, after some residents brought multiple goats into the housing society for Eid al-Adha sacrifice. Opposing residents objected, citing a High Court order that prohibits animal sacrifices inside residential complexes, demanding the goats be moved to an abattoir. The situation escalated when a youth was attacked with a sharp weapon. Subsequently, members of Hindu groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, joined the protests. In a retaliatory move, protesters brought a piglet to the society gates, initially claiming it was for Varaha Puja, but later stating it was a protest against the goats. Police intervened to remove the piglet and resorted to a lathi charge to prevent the mob from breaching the society gates. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya also visited the site. Heavy police deployment remains in place as protesters continue to demand the complete removal of the sacrificial goats from the residential premises.
