The investigation by Enforcement Directorate (ED) has revealed that two companies with political links received protection fund around Rs 4.37 crore from a construction company via accused who are being probed in coal smuggling case, sources told to India Today TV on Thursday. TMC leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s father Amit Banerjee is one of the directors of Leaps and Bound Pvt Ltd, whereas his wife Rujira is director of Leap and Bound Management Services Limited along with Amit Banerjee. "As part of a large conspiracy, tainted funds were collected under the bogus agreement from various business owners, by conspirators and conduits of corrupt politicians involved in money laundering of the proceeds of illegal coal mining," the ED officials told India Today TV.
The two companies were receiving funds from business owners in order to avoid ‘local level syndicate issues’, officials added
