Fertiliser subsidy may hit Rs 3 lakh crore if Hormuz blockade continues: Ashok Gulati

In an exclusive interview with India Today, leading agricultural economist Dr Ashok Gulati spoke on the impact of the West Asia crisis on agriculture and fertilisers. He said the ongoing disruption in the Strait of Hormuz is projected to severely impact India's fertiliser budget, with subsidies expected to cross Rs three lakh crore.

He added while current urea stocks for the kharif crop remain adequate, the heavy reliance on imports poses a significant challenge. India consumes approximately forty million tons of urea annually, importing around twenty-five percent of it.
