Indian Navy escorts 9th LPG vessel Green Asha through Strait of Hormuz
The Indian Navy on Monday escorted the ninth LPG-carrying vessel, Green Asha, through the Strait of Hormuz as part of 'Operation Urja Suraksha'.
The vessel is expected to reach India within the next 24 to 36 hours. This follows the successful transit of the eighth vessel, Greensanvi, which is carrying 46,655 metric tons of LPG and is slated to arrive at Dahej in Gujarat's Bharuch district.
Another vessel, Jag Vikram, currently awaits instructions for safe passage. This naval operation, monitored by the Defence Minister, aims to secure India’s energy security amid regional disruptions. Reports indicate that the arrival of these tankers will help normalise domestic LPG distribution, which was previously impacted by hoarding and black marketing. The government has assured the public that multiple measures are being taken to manage petroleum imports from 41 countries and ease supply constraints. The initiative highlights the critical role of the Indian Navy's task force in the Persian Gulf in guiding Indian-flagged vessels to safety.
