In a late-night session, the Lok Sabha completed the discussion on the new VBG Ramji Bill, introduced by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The bill seeks to replace the 20-year-old MGNREGA Act and guarantees 125 days of rural employment annually. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defended the move, stating there should be 'no politics in the name of the President, Father of the Nation'. However, the Congress alleged that the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name reflects an 'anti-Gandhi mindset' and is an attempt to shrink funds. The BJP also claimed that the previous scheme was an 'epicentre of corruption' and that the opposition is 'rattled' because they can no longer make money in Gandhi's name.
