Security tightened in Delhi after Centre implements CAA

Security in several areas of Delhi has been tightened following the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 by the Central government. Paramilitary personnel also conducted flag marches and night patrols in several sensitive regions of the national capital.

The police have identified 43 hotspots in northeastern Delhi, including Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Nagar , the two epicentres of the 2019-20 anti-CAA protests.

On Monday, the Central government implemented the CAA by notifying the rules, four years after the contentious law was passed by Parliament to fast-track citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014.
