PC Mohanan, one of the two independent members of the National Statistical Commission who unexpectedly quit this week, said he resigned from the central panel because he was "unable to discharge" his duties in the commission.
"We were being sidelined," Mohanan told India Today TV when asked what caused him and JV Meenakshi to resign from the National Statistical Commission. With the resignations, the commission now only has two members -- Chief Statistician Pravin Srivastava and NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
Apart from being an independent member, PC Mohanan was the acting chairman of the National Statistical Commission.
