Milind Soman swam across the Strait of Gibraltar from Tarifa in Spain to the coast of Morocco on May 1. He shared the experience with fans on social media.
Actor and fitness enthusiast Milind Soman has gone viral after sharing an update about his latest endurance feat, an open-water swim across the Strait of Gibraltar from Europe to Africa.
In an Instagram post, Soman said he swam from Europe to Africa, covering the stretch between Tarifa in Spain and the coast of Morocco, a route that is roughly 15 kilometres at its narrowest point.
Sharing the update, the 60-year-old wrote, "1st of May, I swam from Europe to Africa, across the Strait of Gibraltar, 15km at the closest point, from Tarifa in Spain to the coast of Morocco (smiling emoji) beautiful beautiful beautiful swim !! Longer post coming (smiling emoji) (sic)."
The post quickly gained traction online and drew a range of responses from users.
A user commented, "Milind Soman: Defying age, one stroke at a time #FitnessIcon (sic)." A fan wrote, "Wow!!!! That’s super amazing...Hats off to you Sir (sic)!"

Not all the responses were purely celebratory. One comment raised a broader social question, stating, "What if a woman stood with that flag being bare bodied ? How big of a deal would you people make of it ? The worlds a funny place, a man gets lauded for anything, whilst a woman is scrutinised for the smallest of acts (sic)."
