In this edition of Democratic Newsroom, the focus is on the debate over NCERT's portrayal of Mughal rulers such as Akbar, Babur, and Aurangzeb. In its new Class 8 textbook, the NCERT described Akbar's regime as a blend of "brutality" and "tolerance", Babur a "ruthless conqueror" and Aurangzeb a "military ruler" who reimposed taxes on non-Muslims.
