Cyclone Yaas makes landfall, Bengal on alert; WhatsApp sues Centre over new media rules; more 

The landfall process of ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ Cyclone Yass began around 9 am Wednesday, the IMD said. Heavy rainfall and strong winds hit the Odisha and Bengal coasts as the storm moved towards the coast. The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force are, meanwhile, on standby for rescue ops.

WhatsApp has filed a legal complaint in the Delhi High Court against the Indian government seeking to block regulations coming into force on Wednesday. Talking about why WhatsApp is challenging the Indian government’s IT rules, a WhatsApp spokesperson told, “Requiring messaging apps to 'trace' chats is the equivalent of asking us to keep a fingerprint of every single message sent on WhatsApp, which would break end-to-end encryption and fundamentally undermines people’s right to privacy.
