All opposition parties do not share the view that Rahul Gandhi should be the next prime minister of India. Declaring him as the next PM candidate could play into the BJP's hands as the saffron party has already packaged the 2019 contest as a Modi vs Rahul fight.
On December 16, talking to reporters after unveiling a statue of his father and legendary Tamil leader M Karunanidhi in Chennai, Stalin had pitched Rahul Gandhi's name as the Opposition's PM candidate. This has opened a Pandora's box, with Opposition parties harbouring reservations over the premature declaration of a PM candidate.
On Monday, speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury too said that the Left does not share Stalin's views, though he is entitled to have them. He had said that the grand alliance will announce its PM candidate only after the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
