In West Bengal's Malda, a protest over water deletions during voter list revisions spiralled into a major law and order crisis. Angry crowds blocked National Highway 12, and seven judicial officers were held hostage for hours. The Supreme Court came down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee government, calling the incident 'pre-planned, calculative and motivated' to derail the voter revision process and demoralise judicial officers. The court flagged 'complete abdication of duty by state officers and criminal failure of administration' due to lack of timely response despite alerts. The court directed the Election Commission to deploy central forces to ensure the safety of judicial officers, including at their residences. The Chief Justice of India observed that West Bengal is the most polarised state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed the Centre, stating no one informed her about the incident. Violence erupted again in Malda on Thursday when police moved in to clear the highway blockade. Malda saw over 8.2 lakh voters under scrutiny, more than 50% of the district's electorate. So, could there be President's rule in Bengal? Who's winning the perception war? Watch as experts share their views on this and more on the show.
