A political row has erupted over Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha's 'smash heads' remarks. On August 28, farmers' protest at Bastara toll plaza in Karnal turned violent, forcing police to lathicharge. But it was a video of Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha asking cops to break heads of protesters that has sparked controversy. Meanwhile, the farmers are gunning for the SDM, who has now tendered an apology.

The farmer unions are also demanding Rs 2 lakh each for those who were injured in the police action and have threatened an indefinite strike if their demands are not met by September 7.
