The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chief S Somnath said that preparations to launch the ambitious Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon are going on steadily.
The lunar mission is scheduled to be launched on July 14 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Srihatikota aboard the LVM-III. When asked about the differences between Chandrayan 2 and Chandrayan 3, Somanath explained that Chandrayan-2 failed in the last phase of the mission due to "small cumulative reasons". However, they have identified and corrected those issues and made the systems more rigorous.
Isro has increased the ability of the spacecraft to land at a higher speed, improved power generation capability, and enhanced the ability to handle pressure, disorientation, and rotations with additional sensors. Regarding lander technology, Mr. Somanath clarified that the technology itself has not been enhanced, but the design boundaries have been expanded to work within a wider window of conditions. As for the rover, no changes have been made this time.
