Days after IPL withdrawal, Ben Duckett fined for speeding in England
Days after pulling out of the Indian Premier League, England Test opener Ben Duckett has been fined £700 after being caught speeding at 93mph while on his way to a game in his home country.

England Test opener Ben Duckett has been fined £700 after being caught speeding at 93mph while on his way to a game, days after withdrawing from the Indian Premier League. Duckett, who is yet to play in the IPL, was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore at the IPL 2026 auction in December last year.
The 31-year-old, who has averaged just 16 so far in the ongoing series, was convicted of driving at excessive speed on the A50 near Stoke in Staffordshire. Duckett was behind the wheel of his Land Rover when he was clocked by a police speed gun on August 24 last year.
The incident took place just hours before Duckett played a starring role in Birmingham Phoenix's Hundred victory over Manchester Originals at Old Trafford. Staffordshire Police later released traffic camera images appearing to show the England batter speeding along the busy road.
Duckett admitted to the charge in September after being informed by police and pleaded guilty when authorities opted for a criminal prosecution rather than an out-of-court settlement. He has now been handed a £700 fine, four penalty points on his licence, and ordered to pay £120 in costs along with a £280 victim surcharge.
The development comes after Duckett withdrew from the Indian Premier League in a bid to safeguard his England Test spot. The decision will cost him a £200,000 deal with Delhi Capitals and result in a ban from the competition until 2029.
Instead of featuring in the IPL, Duckett will turn out for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship as he looks to rebuild form and confidence following a difficult winter. His struggles included a disappointing Ashes campaign, missing out on the T20 World Cup, and controversy after being filmed drunk during England's break in Noosa.
Duckett is expected to spend significant time working on his game with Nottinghamshire and former England coach Peter Moores. Meanwhile, managing director Rob Key has indicated that England will adopt a more ruthless approach to selection following the Ashes review.
One of the early faces of England's Bazball era, Duckett now finds his place at the top of the Test order under increasing scrutiny.
Speaking earlier, Duckett said: "I've made the decision on my own accord. I felt the best thing for me to be ready to play for England is to be here right now, at home, refreshing my mind and body and getting in the best shape of my life come the First Test in June.
"Everything I'd done for four years was building towards this winter. This could have been the best 12 months of my life. I got married in October, then hoped to win the Ashes down under, play a World Cup and win that. It couldn't have gone much worse but it has lit a massive fire in my belly."
