IPL tickets scam busted by Hyderabad Police after SRH vs KKR game
Hyderabad police arrested three men for black-marketing complimentary IPL tickets during the SRH-KKR match at Uppal. Investigators said forged VIP letterheads were used to obtain passes, exposing a racket around match access.

Hyderabad Police have busted a major Indian Premier League ticket scam linked to the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders at Uppal Stadium on May 3. KKR won the game by seven wickets, after Varun Chakaravarthy delivered a match-winning spell of 3/36 in four overs.
On Tuesday evening, the official X handle of the Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri, revealed that Uppal Police, who were deployed at the stadium for security duties, had cracked down on a black-marketing racket involving IPL tickets.
“Uppal Police cracked down on an IPL ticket black-marketing racket during bandobust duty at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on 03.05.2026,” the statement said. “Acting on credible information, three accused were caught red-handed while selling high-value complimentary IPL tickets (worth ?22,000) at inflated prices.”
The police further stated that the investigation revealed the accused were impersonating VIPs and VVIPs in order to illegally obtain tickets and sell them for significant profit.
“The accused forged letterheads of VIPs/VVIPs (Judges, Ministers, Governors) to illegally procure tickets from cricket associations and sell them for profit,” the statement added.
According to the police, the racket involved the misuse of official-looking documents to gain access to complimentary tickets meant for dignitaries, which were then resold in the black market at much higher prices. Authorities said the operation was carried out in a planned manner and had been under surveillance following credible inputs.
Items seized from the accused included a Mahindra Thar vehicle, five IPL tickets, five mobile phones, and forged letterheads used in the fraud. The accused were produced before the court the following day for further legal proceedings.
Police also issued a strong advisory to the public, urging fans and spectators not to purchase tickets from unauthorised sellers or black-market operators. They warned that such transactions not only lead to financial loss but may also result in legal consequences for buyers.
Authorities reiterated that IPL tickets should only be purchased through official and authorised channels, and strict action would continue against those involved in illegal ticket sales or forgery activities around sporting events.
