From being an international debutant in 2004 at the age of 20-year-old to being India's top scorer with 56 goals in 97 games, Chhetri has had quite a journey.
Chhetri recently married to his long-time girlfriend Sonam Bhattarcharya, who is the daughter of Mohun Bagan legend Subrata Bhattarcharya -- goes on to show Chhetri's deep-rooted relationships with the game.
And hence, Chhetri does not even want to think about football not being in his life. It is something that scares him "real bad".
"It is a scary one (life without football) and one day it is going to happen. One day there will come a time when probably I have to say bye to the game and it scares me. I can't express but it scares me real bad," Chhetri expressed to indiatoday.tech's Abreshmina S Quadri.
"I don't want to think about it and I just enjoy doing what I'm doing right now and I'll keep playing till the time I can and even after I'm done, I'll keep playing football. There is nothing in my life without football, there is no meaning so it can never go away," Chhetri added.
