iPhone 18 Pro Max launch soon: Design, cameras, expected price and everything else to know

The iPhone is arguably the most awaited smartphone every year. And the case is likely no different for the iPhone 18 Pro Max this time around. While Apple is yet to give any official word on the successor of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, thanks to rumours that have surfaced online, we have some idea about what we can expect.

Before we begin, keep in mind that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may be launched without the vanilla iPhone 18. No, Apple is not going to cancel the base iPhone altogether. Instead, reports indicate that the iPhone 18 may be launched in 2027, instead of the usual September timeline when we are likely to see the iPhone 18 Pro models.

So, from new colours to a bigger battery, and more AI features, here is everything that you can expect from the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Apple is not expected to reinvent the wheel here. After a big change with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, rumours suggest that the tech giant will follow a similar design for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. But with a twist. Reports indicate that Apple may be working on a bunch of new colours – dark cherry, silver, light blue, silver, and dark grey.

These new colours will likely be the biggest difference in terms of design. The dark cherry shade is also expected to take over from last year’s cosmic orange as the potential halo colour for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

And another subtle difference could be the finish. Apple may move to a more unified, single-tone finish instead of the two-tone look on last year’s models. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is tipped to be slightly thicker, from 8.75mm to 8.8mm, which is only a marginal increase. Though the device may weigh around 240 grams.

While the back of the iPhone 18 Pro Max may not see big changes, it might be a different story on the front. Reports suggest that Apple may reduce the width of the Dynamic Island on the display by as much as 35 per cent. This could free up more real estate on the screen for both the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

While Apple is expected to keep the display sizes unchanged – 6.9 inches for the Pro and 6.3 inches for the Pro – we may see new LTPO+ display panels. The new display panels may bring efficiency gains, and potentially deliver even better colours.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to run on Apple’s still-unannounced A20 Pro chip, which is tipped to be built on TSMC’s 2nm process. Reports suggest this could deliver up to 15 per cent better performance and up to 30 per cent better efficiency than the A19 Pro.

There are also reports that Apple could use a new packaging technique, referred to in leaks as WMCM, which may bring the RAM closer to the processor. The practical outcome, if this happens, could be snappier performance and better efficiency. That said, one rumour also points to possible component compromises because of memory shortages, so not every leak is singing from the same hymn sheet yet.

But one area where all leaks seem to be pointing to one direction is the battery. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to get a battery between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh. To give you some context, the iPhone 17 Pro Max came with a 5,088mAh cell.

But keep in mind that this figure is likely for the eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max, while markets such as India, where a physical SIM tray is still expected, may get a marginally smaller battery.

Coming to optics, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be in for some meaningful upgrades here. Even though Apple is expected to stick with three 48-megapixel sensors for the main, ultrawide, and 4x telephoto cameras, we can see some improvements. Leaks claim that Apple may be testing a variable aperture for the main camera. This would let users control how much light reaches the sensor. In practical terms, that could mean better exposure control and more natural-looking depth effects.

Apple is also said to be testing a new three-layer stacked image sensor from Samsung, which could improve responsiveness and dynamic range. The telephoto camera is tipped to get a larger aperture as well, which should help in low light. On the front, reports point to the same 18-megapixel Centre Stage selfie camera seen on the iPhone 17 series.

iPhone 18 Pro Max software and Siri

On the software side, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to ship with iOS 27. The headline upgrade here may be a revamped Siri, which is expected to use Google’s Gemini models.

There is also talk of expanded satellite support beyond emergency use. In simple terms, that could allow internet access over satellite in areas without conventional network coverage on the iPhone 18 Pro models.

As things stand, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026. This will likely be the company’s first iPhone launch with John Ternus as CEO. Though Ternus may not be the only new addition to the event, with rumours indicating that we may also see the iPhone Fold at the launch.

There is little information available on the pricing of the iPhone 18 Pro models. It is likely that Apple may hold the line near last year’s levels. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro Max launched in India at Rs 1,49,900. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900.
