Iran turning into hardcore military dictatorship with clerical facade: Fareed Zakaria

In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, top geopolitical expert Fareed Zakaria analysed the escalating West Asia conflict and its implications. He stated that Israel appears to be targeting the entire leadership structure of the Iranian state, observing, "Iran turning into a hardcore military dictatorship with a clerical facade." Zakaria noted that Israeli strikes are killing potential negotiators, making an off-ramp solution increasingly difficult. He described the current situation as 'strategic incoherence' in the American approach, while Israel has clear goals of regime decapitation. Zakaria warned that Iran, despite being weakened, retains asymmetrical capabilities to disrupt oil passage through the Strait of Hormuz. He characterised the conflict as 'the most intense air campaign in 20 years' comparable to the early Iraq war, and expressed concern that the war lacks clear strategic objectives and markers of success.
