Abhishek Banerjee gets court protection in case over remarks on Amit Shah

An FIR was registered against Abhishek Banerjee at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station over alleged provocative speeches during the 2026 West Bengal election campaign. The complaint, also naming Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleges inflammatory remarks, threats and attempts to disturb public tranquillity.

Abhishek accused Shah and the BJP of repeatedly visiting West Bengal only for electoral gains and failing to address people’s real concerns.

EC replaces observer in Nandigram amid bias allegations ahead of polls

Hitesh Choudhury, who previously served as the police observer for Nandigram, has been replaced by Akhilesh Singh, a former CBI official based in Kolkata and currently the Inspector General in Assam. This change follows allegations of bias levelled against the Officer-in-Charge of the Nandigram Police Station by the Trinamool Congress.
