Kia India has announced a new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) finance program for the Kia Carens Clavis EV, aiming to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible and affordable for Indian customers. The new initiative introduces a dual-loan structure where the battery and vehicle chassis are financed separately, significantly reducing the initial acquisition cost of the EV.

The BaaS model has been launched for both battery pack options available with the Carens Clavis EV — the 42kWh and 51.4kWh variants. Under the scheme, customers will pay a battery subscription fee of Rs 3.3 per kilometre, while the vehicle itself can be financed independently through partner financial institutions.

Lower upfront cost for EV buyers

With the battery cost excluded from the vehicle price, the entry price of the Carens Clavis EV drops considerably. The 42kWh version starts at Rs 12.84 lakh under the BaaS scheme, while the larger 51.4kWh variants begin from Rs 15.94 lakh. In comparison, the standard ex-showroom prices without the battery subscription model range from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.99 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom.

Kia says the program is designed to offer greater flexibility and transparency in EV ownership. Separate loan accounts will be created for the chassis and battery, allowing customers to manage repayments independently. The chassis loan tenure can extend up to 60 months, while the battery subscription can continue for up to 96 months.

The company claims the structure will help reduce the financial burden associated with EV ownership and encourage more buyers to consider electric mobility.

Supported by leading financial institutions

The BaaS finance model is being offered in partnership with major financial institutions including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bajaj Finserv.

Kia states that ownership plans for the Carens Clavis EV can start from Rs 51,520, in addition to the battery usage charges based on kilometres driven.

Focus on expanding EV ecosystem

Commenting on the initiative, Kia India said the BaaS model is part of its broader strategy to simplify EV adoption in India and build a more comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem.

The automaker has also been expanding its EV infrastructure network across the country. Through the K-Charge platform integrated into the MyKia app, customers can access more than 15,000 charging points nationwide along with features such as route planning, charger availability updates and integrated payment solutions.

Additionally, over 100 Kia dealerships in India are now equipped with DC fast chargers, while more than 267 workshops across the country have been upgraded to support EV servicing and maintenance.

Carens Clavis EV specifications

The Kia Carens Clavis EV continues unchanged mechanically with the BaaS rollout. The 42kWh version offers a claimed driving range of 404km, while the larger 51.4kWh battery pack delivers a claimed range of 490km on a full charge.
