After a prolonged lull in major product action, Honda Cars India is reportedly preparing to launch two models on May 22, 2026, an updated Honda City and the new Honda ZR-V.

A new flagship arrives

The ZR-V will debut as a completely new nameplate for India and is expected to be brought in as a full import, positioning it as Honda’s flagship SUV in the country. With anticipated pricing of Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom), it will step into the premium five-seater SUV space.

Unlike the more upright and utilitarian stance of the Honda Elevate, the ZR-V adopts a sleeker, crossover-inspired silhouette with a more urban design language. Internationally, it measures roughly 4.56 metres in length and is underpinned by proportions that prioritise road presence and cabin space.

Under the hood, the India-spec ZR-V is expected to feature a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder strong hybrid setup producing around 180bhp, paired with an e-CVT automatic gearbox. The SUV is also likely to be loaded with premium features, including a large freestanding touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, a electric tailgate, wireless charging, and a comprehensive ADAS suite.

City gets a second refresh

Alongside the ZR-V, Honda will introduce the second facelift of the fifth-generation City, aimed at keeping the sedan competitive in an increasingly SUV-dominated market. The current generation received its first update in 2023, and this latest revision is expected to extend its lifecycle until the next-generation model arrives later in the decade.

Visually, the changes will be evolutionary rather than radical. Expect subtle revisions to lighting elements, bumpers, grille design and alloy wheels, along with the possibility of new exterior colour options. The overall silhouette, however, will remain unchanged.

The bigger updates are likely to be inside the cabin. Honda is expected to address the feature gap with rivals such as the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia by adding equipment like a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat and a larger infotainment system with updated software. The Honda Sensing ADAS suite will continue to be a key highlight.

Mechanically, the City facelift is expected to carry forward its existing powertrain options, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 121bhp, and a strong hybrid setup delivering a combined 126bhp. Transmission choices will remain unchanged, including manual and CVT options for the petrol, and an e-CVT for the hybrid.

Part of a bigger plan

These launches form part of Honda’s broader roadmap to introduce up to 10 new models in India by 2030. While the City continues to anchor the brand in the midsize sedan space, the ZR-V represents a strategic shift towards more premium, image-building products.
