As a motoring journalist, there are motorcycles one gets to ride, and then there are motorcycles that quietly stitch themselves into your life story. The Bullet 350 has always been the latter for me. It all started with my father’s Bullet. An old cast iron icon, a second-hand one at that, which I never got to see, apart from in pictures.
Fast-forward many years, and I’ve come to own two Bullets of my own. One was a 2009 Electra, and then a 2016 one. It’s safe to say, I’ve seen Royal Enfield’s story play out over the years, and it’s always been about the way it makes you feel at 60kmph on an empty road, when the world slows down just enough for you to notice it again. The reason for the misty-eyed recap is that our long-term Bullet 350 has come to the end of its tenure. That said, living with it long-term isn’t without its quirks. Those spoke, tube-type tyres can test your patience in 2026, and changing one is an elaborate roadside ritual. Moreover, a few more modern touches wouldn’t go amiss.
But here’s the thing: none of that truly matters when you’re in the saddle. The weight, the long-stroke engine, the deliberate way it builds speed; it all comes together in a manner that feels honest and soulful. The modern-day Bullet 350 isn’t perfect, far from it, and thankfully so. Because perfection can feel forgettable, something the Japanese have come to know all too well. So, goodbye, loyal friend, you will be missed.
