Delhi CM, Speaker take Metro, bus under Metro Monday initiative
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and other ministers used public transport on Monday under the government's Metro Monday initiative. The campaign seeks to save fuel and promote sustainable urban mobility after PM Narendra Modi's call for energy conservation.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and other ministers used public transport on Monday under the Delhi government's 'Metro Monday' initiative aimed at saving fuel and encouraging people to use public transport.
Rekha Gupta started her journey from her residence on Raj Niwas Marg and travelled to the nearest Metro station before taking the Metro to ITO Metro Station. She then boarded a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus to reach the Delhi Secretariat.
Sharing her experience on X, the chief minister said she once again chose the Metro and DTC bus to travel to the Delhi Secretariat on Monday and expressed pride in seeing more Delhi residents making public transport part of their daily routine.
She said every Metro ride, bus journey and shared commute helps reduce traffic congestion, pollution and fuel consumption, adding that even small steps can have a significant national impact.
Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta also travelled by Metro from his residence at Tilak Marg to the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Beginning his journey from the Supreme Court Metro Station, he interacted with commuters and stressed the importance of adopting eco-friendly modes of travel in daily life.
During the journey, the speaker changed trains at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and later travelled towards Vidhan Sabha Metro Station before reaching the Assembly.
In a statement, Vijender Gupta said the initiative was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for fuel conservation. He said the campaign encourages citizens to use public transport and save fuel while promoting sustainable urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion and increasing public participation in environmentally responsible practices.
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh also joined the initiative and cycled from his residence in Central Delhi to the NDMC headquarters, Palika Kendra on Sansad Marg, where he attended a council meeting.
Speaking about the campaign, Singh said all officials, officers, the chief minister and ministers would use public transport on Mondays. He said he chose to cycle because the NDMC office is located near his residence and added that saving fuel benefits everyone.
The 'Metro Monday' initiative forms part of a broader fuel-saving campaign launched by the Delhi government following Prime Minister Modi's appeal for energy conservation amid global fuel uncertainties and tensions in West Asia.
