Mumbai's AQI 5th-worst this February, smog blankets city's skyline

Mumbai is experiencing a severe air quality crisis, with AQI levels reaching 250-300 in parts of the city, comparable to pollution levels typically seen in Delhi. Actor Dalip Tahil, a longtime Mumbai resident, described the city as living in a 'dust bowl' due to approximately 250 properties undergoing redevelopment in just a one-kilometre radius between Khar West and Bandra. He added, "You cannot breathe clean air in Bombay city any more, or its suburbs.' Construction activity, including metro development, coastal road projects, and widespread redevelopment, combined with slower-than-usual wind patterns, has contributed to the crisis. He called for the Maharashtra government to address the issue on a war footing, emphasising that the city's traditional reliance on Arabian Sea breezes to clear pollution is no longer effective.
